As an apparel brand, we understand the impact we have on the world and we want to grow and develop by not harming the planet we live on.
We want to improve our sustainable practices and we recognise that there are sections within the supply chain that are difficult to even out and that producing swimwear from recycled and eco-friendly materials is simply not enough to be a fully sustainable business. We have partnered up with Ecologi, an environmental organisation to plant one tree for each order placed and this way help reduce our carbon footprint and achieve our goal to become climate positive.
Because it can take up to 10 years for baby trees to be mature enough to sequester carbon in large quantities, we fund different carbon offset projects each moth that have a direct impact on atmospheric CO2 levels. We fund offset projects which meet the highest verification standards, such as Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard. But of course – our trees are still out there, quietly sucking up carbon all the same!
NUARSWIM is part of the Climate Positive Workforce, which offsets employees personal carbon footprint. This means we are offsetting our entire personal carbon footprint also! This includes emissions from our home, personal / business travel, holidays, food and hobbies. Also, we are planting trees and funding climate projects, which means every month we will be planting trees in our company forest, as well as funding carbon reduction projects from around the world.
For each order placed we plant a tree through the Eden Reforestation Projects to the northwest region of Madagascar. Eden are world leaders in responsible reforestation, having planted 265 million mangrove trees and created 2.6 million work days for local communities to date. Madagascar is a nation with over 200,000 species of plants and animals that don’t exist anywhere else in the world. Unfortunately, more than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, forcing entire animal species from their natural habitat. Mangrove trees sequester 2 to 4 times more carbon than a tropical rainforest.
We feel this is an important step towards the right direction for becoming a climate positive brand, and we are thrilled to have partnered up with Ecologi and The Eden Reforestation Projects to fund projects that have such a powerful impact on the world.
